Father Time is undefeated, but pitcher Rich Hill is taking him to extra innings.
Hill, 45, is being called up for his 21st season by the Kansas City Royals, MLB.com’s Anne Rogers reported on Monday.
The left-handed hurler would become the oldest player to appear in a game since a 45-year-old Ichiro Suzuki in 2019.
Hill has played for 13 teams throughout his MLB career, one shy of the record held by former right-hander Edwin Jackson.
His best stretch was with the Los Angeles Dodgers from 2016-19, where he compiled a 30-16 record to go with a 3.16 ERA and 427 strikeouts. Hill also started 12 playoff games during that time.
He last appeared in a game with the Boston Red Sox last season.
Jamie Moyer holds the distinction of being the oldest pitcher in MLB history. Moyer pitched until he was 49.
