Starling Marte has reportedly agreed to a four-year, $78-million contract with the New York Mets, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

The deal caps a transformative day for the Mets, who also reached agreements with Eduardo Escobar and Mark Canha on Friday.

Marte, considered by many to be the top centre fielder in this off-season's free agent class, is a 2016 All-Star and two-time Gold Glove award winner.

The 33-year-old is coming off perhaps the best season of his 10-year big-league career, one that saw him post a .310/.383/.458 line with 12 home runs and an MLB-best 47 stolen bases in just 120 games.
