The New York Yankees and middle infielder DJ LeMahieu are finalizing a six-year, $90-million deal, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan.

MLB Network insider Jon Heyman reported that the Blue Jays had offered $78 million over four years. The Yankees had discussed a four-year deal with LeMahieu as well, before both sides agreed to extend the term.

LeMahieu, one of the top players on the free agent market, spent the past two seasons with the Yankees and accrued a 145 OPS+, finishing in the top five in MVP voting both years.

According to Tim Brown of Yahoo Sports, LeMahieu was expected to have had virtual meetings with several previously interested teams this past week, including the Toronto Blue Jays, Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets, Atlanta Braves, St. Louis Cardinals, Boston Red Sox and others.

Brown also reported that LeMahieu has been looking for a deal in the range of five years and $110 million.

LeMahieu, 32, finished third in American League MVP voting after leading the league in batting average (.364) and on-base percentage (.421) with 10 home runs. Though the Blue Jays had been attached to LeMahieu in multiple reports this off-season, it always appeared more likely he would stay in the New York area.
