After six months and 162 games, the MLB regular season has finally come to a close.
With all 30 teams wrapping their 2023 campaigns on Sunday, MLB's stat leaders officially claimed their spot in league history.
While he wasn't able to maintain his early-season pace that saw him flirting with .400, Luis Arraez came away with his second straight batting title. However, since he won the AL crown in 2022, he became the first player to ever lead each league in batting average in consecutive seasons. Meanwhile, Yandy Diaz became the first hitter in Tampa Bay Rays history to lead the American League in batting average.
Despite missing most of September, Shohei Ohtani still smacked an American League-best 44 homers — five better than the closest contender. He also led the league in OPS, punctuating what will likely result in his second career MVP award.
As the Atlanta Braves tied the MLB record for home runs in a season, Matt Olson set the franchise record for longballs. His 54 surpassed the 51 hit by Andruw Jones in 2005. He also led the National League in RBI, driving in 21 more runs than second-place finisher Pete Alonso.
Ronald Acuna Jr. also found himself atop multiple categories. After registering the first-ever 40/70 season, the Braves outfielder took home the top OPS and stolen base total in the National League.
On the pitching side of things, New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole led the American League in ERA and innings pitched. Atlanta Braves righty Spencer Strider took home the National League title in wins and strikeouts.
Kevin Gausman ended the season as the American League strikeout king and his Toronto Blue Jays teammate Chris Bassit tied with Tampa Bay Rays starter Zach Eflin for the league lead with 16 wins.
