Conor McGregor issued medical suspension after Mayweather loss

ESPN boxing analyst Teddy Atlas joins the show to break down May-Mac and discusses why Conor McGregor actually never stood a chance plus if a rematch could actually happen.

Conor McGregor was never knocked down to the canvas by Floyd Mayweather Jr. in their boxing match over the weekend at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, but the UFC superstar did take plenty of punishment.

McGregor absorbed 170 punches courtesy of Mayweather, 152 of which were power strikes, and he was issued a 60-day medical suspension Monday by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC).

Despite the fact McGregor was able to land 111 punches (84 power shots, 27 jabs), according to CompuBox, Mayweather was no issued a medical suspension.

Referee Robert Byrd stopped the fight in the 10th round following a flurry from Mayweather that saw him land 20 of 25 power shots on a weary McGregor.

“I was a little fatigued,” McGregor said after the fight. “He was composed in there, that’s what 50 pro fights can give you. I thought it was close though and I thought it was a bit of an early stoppage. I was just a little fatigued.”

Mayweather, who announced his retirement after improving to 50-0, added: “He’s a lot better than I thought he’d be. He’s a tough competitor, but I was the better man tonight.”

McGregor was one of six fighters who competed on the card to be issued a medical suspension.
