Anthony Hamilton picked up his sixth consecutive win en route to defending his Maximum Fighting Championship heavyweight title Friday in Edmonton.

Hamilton (12-2) beat TUF 10 veteran Darrill Schoonover (13-6) by unanimous decision in the main event of MFC 39. The five-round affair was the first time in eight fights that Hamilton had gone past the second round.

In the co-main event, Tom Gallicchio submitted Kurt Southern in a bout that was for the vacant lightweight title, however Gallicchio did not walk away with the belt. Gallicchio missed weight so he was not awarded the title. The two fighters will have a rematch on May 9.

Also, The Ultimate Fighter 17 veteran Gilbert Smith picked up a unanimous decision win over Jason South.
