Ontario’s Antonio Carvalho was cut from the UFC following his first-round TKO loss to Darren Elkins at UFC 158 in Montreal in March.
Carvalho (15-6) made his UFC debut in January 2012 and went 2-2 in the promotion. He lost a close decision in his UFC debut against Felipe Arantes at UFC 142 in Arantes’ native Brazil.
The 33-year-old then picked up back-to-back victories over Daniel Pineda and Rodrigo Damm — knocking out Pineda in 71 seconds at UFC 149 in July in Calgary and earning a contested split decision over Damm at UFC 154 in November in Montreal – before losing to Elkins.

Carvalho’s featherweight peer Pablo Garza was also released by the organization after losing three of his last four bouts.
Garza (12-4) was the first fighter to pick up a win in the UFC featherweight division when he knocked out Fredson Paixao with a flying knee in his promotional debut in the first ever 145-pound matchup in the Octagon in December 2010.
The 29-year-old went 3-3 in the UFC with wins over Paixao and Canadians Mark Hominick and Yves Jabouin.
Carvalho and Garza exchanged kind words after finding out they had been released.
@pablogarzamma Same to you brother. Cheers!
