Schaub not taking ex-champ Arlovski lightly

Coming off an impressive submission victory over Matt Mitrione at UFC 165 in Toronto, Brendan “The Hybrid” Schaub has now been tasked to defeat former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski at UFC 174 June 14 in Vancouver.

After competing outside of the organization, “The Pitbull” returns to the big show after a six-year hiatus. But despite the fact he’s been out of the spotlight, Schaub is adamant he will not be taking his opponent lightly.

“Andrei chose to be away from the UFC for this long. He’s won six out of his last seven fights…for him it’s been about the right timing. Fighting Andrei Arlovski anywhere is tough, let alone, his comeback fight into the UFC,” Schaub said. “This is all this guy has been focused on. This is all he wants to do…and not to mention he’s with Greg Jackson’s camp now. So he’s training with Jon Jones, Travis Browne, Tim Kennedy; all these monsters. So I get to welcome back Andrei Arlovski 2.0.”

With the bout only six weeks away, one would imagine that’s not enough time to prepare for a fight. But this is “The Hybrid” we are talking about.

“Not for me,” he said. “I’m always training. My manager Lex and my head coach Tony Jeffries called me and they said, ‘alright, you got a fight and the good news is that it’s in six weeks, and you can’t overtrain,’ so for me, it’s a blessing.”

Schaub will also be training with and bringing a big name Gracie with him to Vancouver. He also discussed the proposed bout that never materialized with Mark Hunt, and much more.
