The time has come, fight fans. We now know when the mega-fight between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford will take place.
It was announced on Tuesday that the pair will face off for the undisputed super middleweight championship on Sept. 13 in Las Vegas. The fight will also be streamed globally on Netflix.
The fight will be co-promoted by Dana White's TKO, Turki Alalshikh and Sela (Saudi Arabian entertainment company and subsidiary of the Public Investment Fund).
“Turki wants to make the biggest fights the fans want to see in boxing and this is right up my alley,” White said in a statement. “Are you kidding me that the first boxing fight I’m going to get to promote is Canelo vs. Crawford? It’s literally a once in a lifetime fight.”
While a venue for the fight has not been revealed yet, fans can expect a three-stop promotional tour that'll start in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on June 20 before appearances in New York and Las Vegas.
Alvarez will enter the superfight with a 63-2-2 record (39 by knockout) and six straight unanimous decision victories.
The 34-year-old is the reigning WBC, WBA and WBO super middleweight champion, ranked No. 7 on ESPN's pound-for-pound list. Alvarez's latest win came in early May, beating William Scull after 12 rounds to reclaim the undisputed 168-pound crown.
Crawford, meanwhile, will put his perfect 41-0-0 record (31 by KO) on the line come September. The 37-year-old is ESPN's No. 3 pound-for-pound boxer and an undisputed two-division champion — something only he's done as a male boxer in the four-belt eta. His latest win came in Aug. 2024, a unanimous decision over Israil Madrimov.
“My perfect record speaks for itself. I am the best fighter in the world and no matter the opponent or weight class, I have always come out on top,” Crawford said in a statement. “On Sept. 13, my hand will be raised once again as the world watches greatness.”
