CARTAGENA, Colombia — Montreal’s Philippe Beaudry won a bronze medal in men’s sabre at the Pan-American Fencing Championships.
Beaudry, ranked 36th in the world, first won against Cuba’s Noslen Montalvo Cator 15-10. He went on to win a key match 15-13 against American Jeff Spear — ranked 22nd internationally and Pan-American silver medallist.
Beaudry then defeated Cuba’s Daylon Diaz Acosta 15-13 in the quarter-finals before 15-11 against American Aleksander Ochocki in the semis.
Toronto’s Mark Peros was sixth, while Montreal’s Joseph Polossifakis finished eighth.
In women’s competition, Joanna Guy of Mississauga, Ont., earned fifth place in epee.
