Chael Sonnen failed a drug test following his loss to Anderson Silva at UFC 117 this past August, according to an online report.
Sherdog.com is reporting that Sonnen was notified Sept. 18 by California State Athletic Commission executive officer George Dodd.
"[Sonnen] received his notice yesterday," Dodd told the website.
He did not say which banned substance Sonnen tested positive for.
Sonnen is currently scheduled to fight Anderson Silva Feb. 6, 2011 in Las Vegas.
