Basketball fans hoping for a blockbuster trade pertaining to a certain Greek superstar may have to temper their expectations.
According to NBA insider Brian Windhorst on Monday's airing of ESPN's Get Up, Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo is currently not up for grabs.
"Right now, there is no Giannis Antetokounmpo trade market," Windhorst said. "There is no Giannis Antetokounmpo trade discussions, he has not asked for it. The Bucks are not looking to trade him."
This comes after multiple reports from Windhorst and others that teams around the league, specifically in the Eastern Conference, were looking to put together packages in hopes of acquiring the former two-time MVP.
"And so naturally, any team that wants to make a move this summer, especially a team in the Eastern Conference, you're going to have Giannis on the board," Windhorst said on ESPN's The Hoop Collective podcast last Sunday.
Much of that buzz stemmed from an earlier report that Antetokounmpo was "open-minded" to leaving Milwaukee after the team was bounced in the first round of the playoffs for a third consecutive season.
Teams like the Toronto Raptors and New York Knicks were among those reported to be interested in adding a superstar this off-season, of which Antetokounmpo would surely have been most sought after.
"I had an executive tell me yesterday that he thinks this could be an explosive summer," Windhorst said. "People are saying that the amount of activity and calls happening in the league right now is at a much higher volume than has been in years past.
"I know it does not mean it's going to happen, but Toronto is one of those teams that is sitting there on the balls of its feet, which is interesting."
The 30-year-old is coming off a seventh straight top-five finish in MVP voting after averaging 30.4 points (second in the NBA), 11.9 rebounds (sixth), 6.5 assists and 1.2 blocks through 67 regular-season games.
Meanwhile, Antetokounmpo led the post-season in scoring and rebounding through his five appearances, putting up 33.0 points and 15.4 boards to go with 6.6 assists, 1.0 blocks and 1.0 steals.
As for where that leaves teams looking to add a player of that calibre or similar, Windhorst later added that he believes former MVP Kevin Durant "will be traded in the coming weeks."
The Phoenix Suns star could end up as the biggest fish on the market should Antetokounmpo remain unavailable. The experiment with pairing Devin Booker with Bradley Beal and the 15-time all-star hasn't panned out — regressing year-over-year and missing the playoffs altogether in 2025 following a 36-win season — which has made the high cost to acquire the stars that much more unsightly.
Seemingly in an effort to recoup some of the assets lost in those deals, the front office in Phoenix has shopped Durant on the open market, with one year left on his deal (for $54.7 million) before unrestricted free agency after the 2026-27 campaign.
Following the 2025 trade deadline, ESPN's Shams Charania reported that the Suns came close to deals with the Golden State Warriors and Memphis Grizzlies before ultimately holding on to the two-time champion, while reporting last week the Knicks had also made an offer for Durant in early February.
