Ja Morant is on his way out of Memphis.
Morant will be traded from the Memphis Grizzlies to the Portland Trail Blazers for Jerami Grant and Kris Murray, ESPN's Shams Charania reported on Monday.
The 26-year-old guard struggled with health and performance last season, playing only 20 games and averaging 19.5 points – the lowest mark since his 2020-21 sophomore season.
Morant has missed time due to lower leg injuries, including an ankle sprain and calf strain. He also was suspended for one game by Memphis for conduct deemed detrimental to the team.
A former Rookie of the Year, Most Improved Player and two-time all-star, Morant led the Grizzlies to three straight playoff berths between 2021-23.
But Memphis has increasingly struggled in recent years, including a 27-55 finish in 2023-24 while Morant played only nine games due to both a suspension for gun-related incidents and a season-ending shoulder surgery.
The Grizzlies finished last season 13th in the Western Conference with a 25-57 record, and went 7-13 with Morant in the lineup.
Morant heads to a Trail Blazers team that now has a surplus of ball-handling guards, with Damien Lillard, Jrue Holiday and Scoot Henderson all currently on the roster.
Heading back to Memphis are the 32-year-old Grant and the 25-year-old Murray.
Grant appeared in 57 games for the Blazers last season, averaging 18.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.1 assists.
Murray also appeared in 57 games, with averages of 5.8 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists.
