The Orlando Magic have been granted a disabled player exception worth $3,681,283 following the loss of Jonathan Isaac for the 2020-21 season, according to The Athletic‘s Shams Charania.
A disabled player exception provides a team with the opportunity to add a replacement by either signing a player to a one-year contract, trading for a player in the final year of his contract, or placing a waiver claim on a player in the final year of his contract.
Back in August, Isaac tore his left ACL and meniscus while playing against the Sacramento Kings in Orlando’s second seeding game inside the Disney bubble.
The 23-year-old forward is one of the Magic’s core pieces, and has turned heads (particularly on the defensive end) when healthy over the past three seasons, though that has been less often than both player and franchise would prefer — Isaac has only played one campaign in which he surpassed 70 games played.
