Los Angeles Lakers big man Anthony Davis could return to the team from a foot injury late next week according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Davis has been sidelined with a foot injury since Dec. 16 when he left the game against the Denver Nuggets at halftime. Up to that point, he had been playing at an All-NBA level, averaging 27.4 points, 12.1 rebounds and 3.4 steals+ blocks per game.
Lakers coach Darvin Ham spoke to the media on Thursday saying that their centre is “progressing really really well.”
The Lakers have coasted since losing their centre, going 8-9 in the games he’s missed. They currently sit at 20-25, good for the 13th seed in the Western Conference. That places them two games back of the 10-seed and a play-in berth or only 2.5 games back of the six-seed and an automatic spot in the playoffs.
Los Angeles co-star LeBron James has turned back the clock since then, averaging 34.4 points, 8.1 rebounds and 8.1 assists in 14 games (He missed three due to rest and load management).
As of now, Davis is pegged to return close to their matchup against the Boston Celtics on Jan. 28, which would bring him back in time for a five-game road trip.
