The Dallas Cowboys haven't made many moves in NFL free agency, but that didn't stop them from trending on social media Thursday.
After spending 11 seasons with the Cowboys, defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence left Dallas for the Pacific Northwest this off-season, signing a three-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks.
Speaking with local Seattle reporter Brian Nemhauser upon his arrival, Lawrence explained his decision to leave his long-time home.
"A change in scenery is always good, but Dallas is my home," Lawrence told Nemhauser. "I made my home there, my family lives there, I'm forever going to be there. But I know for sure I'm not going to win a Super Bowl there, so yeah. We here."
Lawrence's Super Bowl comment drew the attention of former teammate and current Cowboys star DE Micah Parsons.
"This what rejection and envy look like! This some clown s---!" Parsons wrote on his personal X account.
Lawrence, however, wasn't backing down from Parson's jab.
"Calling me a clown won't change the fact that I told the truth. Maybe if you spent less time tweeting and more time winning, I wouldn't have left," Lawrence wrote on X in reply to Parsons.
Since their last Super Bowl victory in 1995, the Cowboys haven't even made it to an NFC Championship game.
Lawrence did his best to change that, totalling 61.5 sacks in his 11 seasons with Dallas and making the Pro Bowl four times. But the 32-year-old said the Cowboys didn't offer him a contract this off-season, and he is now ready for a new challenge with the new-look Seahawks.
Lawrence was limited to four games by a sprained foot in 2024 and missed at least half the season in two of the past four years.
Parsons is the fourth player in NFL history to record at least 10 sacks in each of his first four seasons. The other three are in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
With Parsons going into the final year of his rookie contract, the Cowboys could be on the verge of making him the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL. Cleveland defensive end Myles Garrett just took that title with an extension that averages $40 million per season.
Unfortunately for all those hoping for a potential meeting between Lawrence and Parsons, Seattle and Dallas are not scheduled to play this season.
