One of the top Canadians in the NFL already has an injury to overcome.
Carolina Panthers running back Chuba Hubbard suffered a hamstring injury in practice and is considered week-to-week, head coach Dave Canales told reporters Thursday.
However, Canales did say that he was "very confident" the Edmonton native would be ready for Week 1.
Hubbard, 27, is entering his sixth NFL season.
A product of Bev Facey High School in Edmonton, he has rushed for 3,686 yards and 23 touchdowns over five seasons with the Panthers.
Hubbard split time in the backfield with Rico Dowdle in 2025, and finished with 511 yards on the ground and 223 receiving yards with four total touchdowns. Dowdle signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers this off-season, so Hubbard will compete for carries with third-year pro Jonathon Brooks this year instead.
Carolina won its first NFC South title since 2015 last season before being bounced by the Los Angeles Rams in the wild-card round.
