It's safe to say Myles Garrett hasn't made much progress on his goal of finding a new NFL home
Following a public trade request by the Cleveland Browns' star defensive end last month, Garrett recently requested to meet with team owner Jimmy Haslem, who declined to speak, per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
Garrett, 29, has made it clear he'd like to be in a more competitive situation — after a 3-14 campaign with the Browns, finishing last in the AFC North — saying he'd like to "compete for and win a Super Bowl."
However, the Browns have shown no interest in that plan, as both sides appear to have dug in on their interests.
Cleveland's general manager Andrew Berry insisted the team is not looking to trade Garrett despite his request.
“We can’t imagine a situation where not having Myles is best for the Browns," Berry said at the NFL draft combine last week.
Garrett, the AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2023, was a finalist for the award again last season. His 14 sacks ranked second in the league, and he became the first player in NFL history to have 14 or more sacks in four consecutive seasons. He holds the franchise record with 102 1/2 career sacks.
The first-overall pick in 2017 is under contract with the Browns for two more seasons under a five-year, $125-million extension he signed in 2020.
According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, Haslem did not meet with Garrett because he "trusts" that Berry will handle the situation.
The Browns GM did say that both sides have had "plenty of dialogue" and he "understands the frustration" from the team's top player. Berry added that he anticipated Garrett going directly from the Browns to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
