Lamar Jackson looks to have avoided the worst-case scenario.
While the Baltimore Ravens are unlikely to have Jackson on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons after he suffered a sprained ankle, the star quarterback's injury is not considered long-term or surgical, NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday.
According to Rapoport, though the injury isn't long-term, Jackson could still very well end up missing multiple games based on how rehab goes.
Jackson suffered the injury in the first half of Sunday's 24-18 win over the Tennessee Titans. His left ankle seemed to roll under a defender while taking a sack. He posted “ouch” on social media Monday after another account had posted video of the play.
Baltimore (3-1) held on to win the game but didn't score a point with Tyler Huntley playing quarterback in place of Jackson.
The two-time MVP has had a solid start to the season, completing 70.8 per cent of his passes for 967 yards, six touchdowns and one interception. A premier two-way threat, Jackson has added 144 yards on the ground with one touchdown.
Jackson missed four games last season, and Baltimore's 2021 and 2022 seasons also were derailed by injuries.
Last season, Jackson also was injured in Week 4 and didn't play again until Week 9. The Ravens started 1-5, and although the team rallied, Baltimore fell short of the post-season at 8-9.
