The Winnipeg Jets will have the 14th overall pick in the NHL Draft after the Draft Lottery results were revealed Tuesday.
Before the draft lottery, the Jets were ranked 14th, so they did not move up, with a 1.5 per cent chance of being drawn. But because of new rules instituted for this year's lottery, the Jets could not move up more than 10 slots. So, the Jets were never in the running to win the top pick and a chance at consensus No. 1 Shane Wright.
With the 14th pick, the Jets may be able to land a player like Marco Kasper of Rogle in Sweden. As seen in our mock draft: Leaving Austria to play against better competition is admirable and speaks volumes about where he’s trying to take his game.
The Jets had a rollercoaster season that saw the resignation of coach Paul Maurice, who was replaced on an interim basis by assistant Dave Lowry.
The Jets finished fifth in the Pacific Division with a 39-32-11 record for 89 points, eight back of the last wild-card spot claimed by the Nashville Predators.
The 2022 NHL Draft is July 7-8 at the Bell Centre in Montreal.
