Avalanche sign forward Alex Newhook to entry-level contract

The Colorado Avalanche have signed forward Alex Newhook to a three-year, entry-level contract.

Newhook was selected by the Avalanche 16th overall in the 2019 NHL Draft and is expected to report to the AHL's Colorado Eagles.

The 20-year-old is coming off his sophomore season at Boston College where he scored seven goals and 16 points in 12 games. The St. John's, N.L., native also represented Canada at the 2021 World Junior Hockey Championship scoring six points in six games.

Newhook won the Tim Taylor Award as the NCAA Division-I Rookie of the Year during the 2019-20 season after leading all freshmen players with 19 goals and finishing with 42 points in 34 games.
