Avalanche's Girard taken to hospital after hit from Barbashev in Game 3

Watch as Colorado Avalanche defenceman Samuel Girard is slow to get up and heads to the locker room after taking a heavy hit from St. Louis Blues forward Ivan Barbashev during the first period of Game 3.

Colorado Avalanche defenceman Samuel Girard has left Game 3 with an upper-body injury and has been taken to the hospital for further evaluation, the team announced.

The incident occurred just under two minutes into the game, when Girard went behind his net to collect the puck on Saturday night and was met with a crunching check from the Blues' Ivan Barbashev. Girard's head made contact with the glass, he went down, and stayed down until the whistle was eventually blown.

Barbashev did not receive a penalty on the play.

Girard eventually got up and went to the dressing room with some help from a trainer. The 24-year-old has three points in six playoff games this spring.
