The Boston Bruins have some tough decisions to make over the next few weeks.
With a 22-19-5 record that puts them just one point ahead of the Columbus Blue Jackets for the top wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference, Bruins president Cam Neely is evaluating all of the team's options ahead of the trade deadline on March 7.
"We'll see where we're at," Neely said at the team's 2025 Black and Gold Gala on Wednesday. "I think, right now, we've got to look at two paths: one that we're buying and one that we may be retooling a little bit.
"We still feel like we've got a playoff team here and we certainly don't want to jeopardize getting out of the playoffs because we made some moves that may be good for the future, but now good for the present."
Despite losing seven of their last 10, the Bruins look to be turning a corner, winning two straight against tough divisional opponents in the Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning.
With 18 games to play until the trade deadline, captain Brad Marchand is looking to instill urgency within the group after their slow start.
"We're aware of the situation we're in," Marchand said. "We understand that we haven't performed the way we've needed to and there's consequences that come with that."
