The New York Rangers have a new netminder.
Joonas Korpisalo is headed to the Big Apple from the Boston Bruins in a trade for forward prospect Kalle Vaisanen and a 2028 fourth-round pick, the teams announced on Wednesday.
Korpisalo, 32, served as Jeremy Swayman's backup last season, posting an .894 save percentage and 3.15 goals-against average. He'll now play the same role behind Igor Shesterkin with the Rangers, filling the spot vacated by the retired Jonathan Quick.
Boston, meanwhile, could turn to Michael DiPietro as its backup.
Vaisanen, 23, had three goals and one assist in 51 games with the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack last season. He was selected by the Rangers in the fourth round of the 2021 draft.
