Canadiens defenceman David Savard out eight weeks with ankle injury

Montreal Canadiens defenceman David Savard will miss the next eight weeks with what the club is calling an injury to his right ankle.

The club made the announcement after Saturday's 7-2 loss to the Edmonton Oilers.

Savard has one goal and eight assists for nine points in 42 games. He is also minus-17 and averages 20:43 in ice time per game.

The Canadiens (8-28-7) are currently last in the league with 23 points.
