Montreal Canadiens defenceman Kaiden Guhle has been suspended one game for slashing Philadelphia Flyers forward Travis Konecny, the NHL's department of player safety announced Friday.
The slash happened at 19:55 of the second period in Thursday's 4-1 win for the Canadiens.
Konecny was tied up with Canadiens forward Juraj Slafkovsky after hitting him in front of the Flyers bench shortly before.
When Konecny was later passing by Montreal's bench, Guhle hit Konecny in the stomach with his stick while on the bench.
Guhle was not penalized for the play during the contest. He will miss the Canadiens' game against the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday.
Players not on the playing surface are not allowed to interfere with players on the ice in any way.
In 68 games this season with the Habs, the 22-year-old blueliner has six goals and 15 assists for 21 points. With Guhle suspended, Johnny Kovacevic is available to draw into the lineup for Saturday's game against the Carolina Hurricanes.
