Days after seeing his collegiate career end, Lane Hutson will take the next step in his hockey career.
The Montreal Canadiens prospect will make his NHL debut against the Detroit Red Wings, the team confirmed.
Hutson was skating on the second pairing with veteran defenceman David Savard at practice Monday.
Hutson signed a three-year, entry-level contract on April 12. The five-foot-10, 162-pound rearguard was both a top-10 finalist for the Hobey Baker Award, given annually to the top player in NCAA men's hockey, and named to Hockey East's first all-star team for the second straight year.
The Canadiens selected the defenceman in the second round, 62nd overall, at the 2022 NHL Draft.
Fans can watch the game on Sportsnet's Monday Night Hockey at 7 p.m. ET/ 4 p.m. PT.
