Canadiens' Samuel Montembeault starting in net Thursday vs. Sabres

Goaltender Samuel Montembeault will make his regular-season debut for the Montreal Canadiens when he starts Thursday night in Buffalo against the Sabres.

Jake Allen started in Montreal's 2-1 season-opening loss in Toronto against the Maple Leafs on Wednesday.

The Habs claimed Montembeault off waivers from the Florida Panthers earlier this month.

Montembeault, 24, posted a record of 8-4-1 with a 2.86 goals-against average and .898 save percentage in 13 games with the AHL's Syracuse Crunch in 2020-21.

The Bécancour, Que. native has a career NHL record of 9-8-3 with a 3.20 GAA and .892 save percentage in 25 games.

Montembeault was selected in the third round (77th overall) by the Panthers in the 2015 NHL Draft.
