The Montreal Canadiens traded goaltender Michael McNiven to the Calgary Flames for future considerations on Wednesday.

McNiven signed as an undrafted free agent with the Canadiens in September 2015.

The 24-year-old from Winnipeg appeared in just one game for Montreal making his NHL debut on Jan. 25 in a relief appearance against the Minnesota Wild.

McNiven posted a 4-4-1 record, 4.04 goals-against average and .869 save percentage in 11 games this season with the Laval Rocket of the American Hockey League.

A standout netminder in junior with the Owen Sound Attack, McNiven captured the Ontario Hockey League and Canadian Hockey League goaltender of the year awards during the 2016-17 season.

It's the second trade between the two clubs in recent weeks. Calgary acquired forward Tyler Toffoli from Montreal for forwards Tyler Pitlick and Emil Heineman plus a conditional first-round draft pick in 2022 and a fifth-round draft pick in 2023 on Feb. 14.
