Capitals sign defenceman Erik Gustafsson to one-year deal

Free agent Erik Gustafsson has agreed to a one-year, $800,000 contract with the Washington Captials, the team announced Wednesday.

Gustafsson, 30, recorded 18 points in 59 games with the Chicago Blackhawks during the 2021-22 season.

The defenceman ranked third among Chicago blue liners in points, second in power play points (4) and fourth in shots (79).

Gustafsson represented Sweden at the 2022 World Championship, where he recorded seven assists in eight games.
