Arizona Coyotes chairman and governor Alex Meruelo said he couldn't make any official public comments regarding the team's relocation in a statement released on X, formerly Twitter, on Saturday.
"There has been a lot of discussion in recent days about the future of the Arizona Coyotes," Meruelo said in the statement. "We are focused on a myriad of issues that are unresolved, and therefore we are unable to make any official public comments at this time."
Meruelo also committed to publicly addressing any concerns "as promptly as possible."
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported on Friday that Coyotes players were informed by general manager Bill Armstrong that the team would, in fact, be relocated to Salt Lake City, Utah. Prior to that, Coyotes forward Lawson Crouse told reporters in Edmonton that the players did not have more information that was not already public.
Armstrong declined to comment.
Meruelo has been the owner of the Coyotes since 2019, when he bought the majority ownership stake. He became sole owner in 2023.
Friedman reported on Wednesday that the NHL was acting as a broker between Meruelo and Ryan Smith, owner of Smith Entertainment Group, who plans to purchase the team.
