The New Jersey Devils had the night off on Wednesday, but that didn't stop them from officially punching their ticket to the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Thanks to an 8-5 win by the Philadelphia Flyers over the New York Rangers on Wednesday, the Devils are officially headed to the post-season.
The Devils can now finish no lower than third in the Metropolitan Division after the Rangers' loss.
The Washington Capitals have already locked up first place in the division, which means the Devils will take on the Carolina Hurricanes in Round 1. The Devils trail the second-place Hurricanes by seven points with just four games remaining, so they will need to win out and get some help to secure home-ice advantage in the first round.
New Jersey is the seventh team in the East to secure a playoff spot. The Montreal Canadiens are in the driver's seat for the eighth and final playoff spot in the conference.
