One of the Anaheim Ducks' top trade chips took a hit on Saturday.
Ducks goaltender John Gibson was ruled out of Saturday's game against the Boston Bruins with an upper-body injury, the team announced.
Gibson played the first two periods but then was replaced by Lukas Dostal to start the third period. It's not clear when Gibson suffered the injury.
The 31-year-old Gibson had turned away 19 of the 20 shots he faced against the Bruins before he was forced to exit.
Despite the Ducks' 24-24-6 record, Gibson has been one of the bright spots on the team. He came into Saturday's game as one of the league leaders in goals saved above expected per 60 minutes played, according to Money Puck.
With the Ducks outside the Western Conference playoff picture, Gibson has been rumoured as a potential piece for a contending team looking for goaltending help.
The Ducks netminder was the only goalie on the latest trade board from Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos. Gibson has a $6.4-million salary cap hit against for another two seasons past this one.
