One of the Calgary Flames' 2026 draft picks has family ties to the team.
The Flames used the 65th-overall selection on Saturday during the third round of the NHL Draft to select forward Joe Iginla.
Joe is the son of Hall of Famer Jarome Iginla, who spent 16 years with the Flames, playing 1,219 of his 1,554 NHL games with the organization and serving as captain for nine seasons. Jarome is now special adviser to GM Craig Conroy,
Joe was asked for his dad's reaction to the pick on Saturday.
"The first thing he said was that he had nothing to do with that," he said, per Sportsnet's Eric Francis. "That was nice, because, obviously people have stuff to say about, 'your dad is part of the Flames, or he played there.'
"Obviously, haters are gonna always say something, and people will say something about your dad, but I feel like at this point in my career, I've heard about every insult and chirp there is about my dad. So I'm just gonna go out there and try to prove them wrong."
Joe, 17, split the 2025-26 season playing for the Edmonton Oil Kings and Vancouver Giants in the WHL, recording 31 points in total.
His brother, Tij, 19, was the No. 6 pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, taken by the Utah Mammoth.
Their sister, Jade, 21, was just recently drafted by Hamilton as the 18th-overall pick in the 2026 PWHL Draft.
