The Toronto Maple Leafs have taken the next step as they continue to rework their blue line.
The Maple Leafs have traded defenceman Brandon Carlo to the St. Louis Blues for two third-round picks — 73rd and 76th overall in the 2026 draft — the teams announced Saturday.
Carlo, 29, played only 55 games in the 2025-26 season and finished with seven assists in one of his least productive seasons in the NHL.
He dealt with injuries for a chunk of the year, missing nearly two months from mid-November to January after undergoing foot surgery. He also missed time near the end of the season with a lower-body injury.
Acquired by the Leafs from the Boston Bruins at the 2025 trade deadline, the Colorado Springs native will finish his Maple Leafs career having picked up only 10 assists in 75 regular-season games.
He was acquired from the Bruins in a now-regrettable trade that sent centre Fraser Minten, a 2026 conditional first-round pick and a 2025 fourth-round pick the other way. The 2026 first-rounder has since converted to a 2028 first-round pick.
Drafted by the Bruins 37th overall in 2015, Carlo has 29 goals and 90 assists in 692 career games over his 10-year career.
The Blues, meanwhile, have made their second major acquisition of the off-season, having swung a deal with the Anaheim Ducks for centre Mason McTavish on Friday.
