Flames sign defenceman Nikita Nesterov to one-year, $700K deal

The Calgary Flames have signed defenceman Nikita Nesterov to a one-year, $700,000 contract, the team announced Friday.

Nesterov, 27, played last year in the KHL with CSKA Moscow, where he recorded seven goals, 23 points and 24 penalty minutes in 53 games. He has previous NHL experience with the Tampa Bay Lightning and Montreal Canadiens.

In 132 career NHL games, Nesterov tallied nine goals, 33 points and 81 penalty minutes, with an additional goal and seven points in 28 playoff games.

Nesterov was also captain of Team Russia in their gold-medal campaign at the 2018 Olympics in Pyeonchang.

The Chelyabinsk, Russia, native was selected by Tampa Bay in the fifth round of the 2011 NHL Draft, 148th overall.
