The Vegas Golden Knights were on the wrong side of a coach's challenge against the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final — twice.
The Golden Knights scored twice in the first four minutes of the second period, but neither tally would stand.
Mark Stone thought he opened the scoring with a breakaway that he put five-hole past Frederik Andersen. However, Brett Howden, who sprung Stone, did not have control of the puck as he entered the Hurricanes' zone. The call was ruled offside and the goal was overturned.
Just a few moments later, Jack Eichel also thought he gave Vegas the lead when he banged in a rebound. But once again, Rod Brind'Amour challenged the goal, this time for goalie interference.
Ivan Barbashev stormed the crease before Eichel scored and made contact with Andersen's head, taking him out of the play. It took no time for the referees to call this goal back, and Game 3 remained scoreless.
Brind'Amour's two challenges make Game 3 the first in Stanley Cup Final history to feature multiple coach's challenges, per Sportsnet Stats.
It wouldn't matter to the Golden Knights, though, as quick tallies from Tomas Hertl and Mitch Marner midway through the second made up for the two goals taken off the board.
