Some league discipline could be coming down on the Vegas Golden Knights.
Forward Nicolas Roy will have a hearing Friday for cross-checking Edmonton Oilers forward Trent Frederic during overtime of Game 2 on Thursday, the league announced.
Roy was assessed a five-minute major penalty and a game misconduct on the play that occurred about five minutes into the extra frame.
Roy and Frederic were battling for the puck along the boards, and as the puck briefly flew in the air, Roy made a motion with his stick towards it, but made contact with Frederic’s face instead.
The Oilers winger immediately went down on the ice, bleeding visibly, but remained in the game. Edmonton did not score on the ensuing power play.
Roy, 28, played 71 games for Vegas this season, recording 15 goals and 16 assists. He's added one goal and two assists in eight playoff games.
Meanwhile, Edmonton's Viktor Arvidsson will not have a hearing for his hit on Golden Knights defenceman Brayden McNabb, reported Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff.
Just moments before Leon Draisaitl drove home a Connor McDavid pass on a two-on-one to take Game 2 in extra time, Arvidsson appeared to give McNabb a shove, sending the 34-year-old hard into the end boards.
No penalty was called on the play.
"He blew it, he missed the call. I don't know what else to say," Golden Knights head coach Bruce Cassidy told reporters after the game. "It's a can-opener trip, it's a dangerous play, it's all those things. But it didn't get called, so you've got to keep playing."
McNabb appeared to be favouring his left arm as he left the ice.
The Oilers lead the series 2-0.
Game 3 between the Oilers and Golden Knights is set for Saturday at 9:30 p.m. ET / 7:30 p.m. MT with live coverage available on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+.
