After a scary moment in the Jets' 10th straight loss on Tuesday, there are some updates on Haydn Fleury.
The defenceman was placed on injured reserve on Wednesday, retroactive to Jan. 6, the team announced.
Fleury was stretchered off the ice after slamming into the boards midway through the first period of the team's 4-3 overtime loss against the Vegas Golden Knights.
The 29-year-old had chased a loose puck in Winnipeg's end and turned to make a pass when he was met with a bump from Vegas forward Keegan Kolesar. The contact threw Fleury backwards and hurdled him into the boards.
The Jets later announced that the defenceman was transported to a hospital by ambulance and remained fully alert, with mobility in his extremities, upon departure.
Fleury was released from the hospital on Tuesday night and was around the rink on Wednesday for the team’s meetings.
Head coach told Jets colour analyst Mitchell Clinton on Wednesday that the Carlyle, Sask., native suffered a broken nose and bruised back.
Arniel also said that it is unclear if Fleury has a concussion, but the team will continue to monitor the situation.
In a corresponding move, the Jets recalled forward Danny Zhilkin from the Manitoba Moose of the AHL.
The 22-year-old Russian was drafted in the third round of the 2022 NHL Draft by the Jets and has yet to play a game for the team.
Through three seasons, he has 31 points in 127 games with the Moose.
Winnipeg currently sits in last place in the league with a 15-21-5 record and 35 points.
They face the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday.
