The Toronto Maple Leafs lost defenceman Chris Tanev early in Saturday's game against the Colorado Avalanche.
Tanev was ruled out by the Maple Leafs as play resumed in the second period due to an upper-body injury.
The veteran blue-liner skated off in visible discomfort after a collision with Avalanche forward Artturi Lehkonen in front of the Maple Leafs' net around the midway point of the first period.
Tanev had played 3:29 with a minus-1 rating before exiting.
The 36-year-old had one assist over Toronto's first five games while averaging 19:31 of ice time per contest.
Tanev was limited to just 11 games in the 2025-26 season by multiple injuries, and underwent season-ending core muscle surgery in March.
According to Sportsnet's Luke Fox, Maple Leafs head coach Jim Hiller did not have an update on Tanev's status following Toronto's 6-3 win over Colorado. Tanev was seen in the locker room walking around and talking with teammates.
