Toronto Maple Leafs star forward Auston Matthews is listed as day-to-day with a hand injury and has not been ruled out for Saturday's game against the Edmonton Oilers.
Following Wednesday's victory over the Calgary Flames, head coach Sheldon Keefe said Matthews had been dealing with a wrist injury for most of the season.
“We’ll see how he is. They’ll continue to take care of him and monitor it,” Keefe said about Matthews after the game. “We don’t think it’s anything more at this point than what he’s been dealing with virtually all season.”
Through 20 games this season, Matthews leads the league with 18 goals despite the wrist injury. The 23-year-old appeared to jam his right wrist while sliding into the end boards against Calgary while having it taped up for the remainder of the game.
Joe Thornton and Jake Muzzin were participants at practice after missing the last two games with injuries along with goaltender Jack Campbell who has been working his way back from a leg injury. Frederik Andersen was on the ice working with goaltender coach Steve Briere before practice but did not participate with the team.
