Next season's Winter Classic game between the Utah Mammoth and Colorado Avalanche will take place on New Year's Eve in Salt Lake City, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman announced Friday.
The league had announced earlier this year that Utah would host the outdoor game in just its third season since relocating from Arizona, but a date had not been set.
The Winter Classic will take place at the University of Utah's Rice Eccles Stadium, which holds a capacity of 54,000.
The Mammoth were the only remaining NHL franchise to have not played an outdoor game after the Florida Panthers hosted the Winter Classic this past season.
