Oilers' Connor McDavid named winner of 2021 Ted Lindsay Award

Watch as Connor McDavid accepts the 2020-21 Ted Lindsay Award and talks about what it means to be recognized by his peers.

Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid has been named the winner of the 2021 Ted Lindsay Award, presented annually “to the most outstanding player in the NHL” as voted by fellow members of the NHLPA.

The win is McDavid's third Ted Lindsay win — coming in just his sixth NHL season, the young centreman has now been named MVP in half of his NHL campaigns.

There was little question about this one. The 24-year-old put forth one of the most dominant offensive campaigns in NHL history this season, amassing 105 points in just 56 games, the only player to hit triple digits in a condensed season that most assumed would mean zero 100-point scorers.

His century sum earned him the third Art Ross Trophy of his career as the game's scoring leader, with the league's next highest scorer — teammate Leon Draisaitl — finishing 21 points below McDavid. The captain's 72 assists alone were more than the total points sums of any player in the league aside from Draisaitl, while his 1.88 points-per-game pace and 68 even-strength points paced all NHLers.

With the 2021 win in tow, McDavid becomes just the seventh player all-time to claim the Ted Lindsay three times, joining Sidney Crosby, Mario Lemieux, Guy Lafleur, Jaromir Jagr and Alex Ovechkin.
