The Edmonton Oilers signed veteran defenceman Jason Demers to a one-year, two-way contract worth $750,000 on Sunday.
Demers was then placed on waivers for the purpose of being loaned to the Bakersfield Condors of the American Hockey League.
The 34-year-old Demers joined the Oilers during training camp on a professional tryout but did not make the club. He then joined the Condors on a PTO and has nine assists in 23 games.
Demers spent last season with Kazan Ak-Bars of the KHL picking up one assist in five games and also competed for Team Canada in the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing.
Drafted in the seventh round (186th overall) by San Jose in 2008, Demers has 169 goals and 214 assists for 407 points in 699 games over 13 NHL seasons with the Sharks, Dallas Stars, Florida Panthers and Arizona Coyotes.
