Edmonton Oilers forward Zack Kassian is week-to-week due to a lower-body injury, according to head coach Dave Tippett.

Kassian suffered the injury during Wednesday's 4-3 loss to the Montreal Canadiens. The 30-year-old was forced to leave the game in the first period after finishing a check on Canadiens captain Shea Weber. Kassian was in pain after the hit and appeared unable to put weight on his left leg.

Kassian, who missed 17 games earlier this season due to injury, has two goals and five points in 26 games.

Tippett also provided an update on goaltender Mike Smith, who was seen leaving Saturday's morning skate in discomfort. Smith "just tweaked something," according to his head coach, and is "fine."

Smith is 16-5-2 in 25 appearances for the Oilers this season, with a .921 save percentage and a 2.31 goals-against average.

The Oilers, who sit third in the North Division, return to action Monday against the second-placed Winnipeg Jets.
