Pittsburgh Penguins forward Ben Kindel is in stable condition after suffering a medical episode on the team's airplane on Tuesday, the team announced.
The Penguins' team plane was forced to return to Salt Lake City International Airport shortly after takeoff when Kindel suffered the episode. Team medical staff provided immediate care and, upon landing, Kindel was transported to hospital.
The Penguins said that the 19-year-old forward is conscious, alert and in stable condition, and will not give a further update at this time.
"The health and safety of our players, as well as the privacy for their families, are our top priority," the team wrote in a statement.
The Coquitlam, B.C. native is in his second year with the Penguins.
In nine games, Kindel has two goals and two assists.
