The Vancouver Canucks have interviewed a former Ottawa Senators general manager for their vacant position.
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported Sunday that the Canucks have met in person with Pierre Dorion.
Dorion, 53, served as the Senators' GM from 2016 to 2023. In that span, Ottawa made the playoffs just once. He was fired in November of 2023 after an NHL investigation revealed the Senators failed to share information about a no-trade list for forward Evgenii Dadonov when Dadonov was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights in 2021.
"A new name has emerged in the search for the Vancouver Canucks' new head of hockey operations, however this is all going to look when it's done," said Friedman. "They have interviewed in person former Ottawa Senators GM Pierre Dorion.
"Among those we also believe they've talked to this week, Ryan Bowness from the New York Islanders, Evan Gold from the Boston Bruins, and there's definitely more, just haven't confirmed all of them yet. I don't believe that hiring is imminent, but we are starting to figure out more and more people who are on their list."
The Canucks fired GM Patrik Allvin at the conclusion of their season, which saw them finish 32nd in the standings with a 25-49-8 record. Canucks president Jim Rutherford indicated that the new hire would be positioned to succeed him as head of hockey operations in the near future.
Vancouver has failed to advance to the post-season for two consecutive years and for nine of the past 11 seasons. They have the best odds to win the NHL Draft lottery, which will be held this Tuesday.
