The Buffalo Sabres are adding some depth up front.
Buffalo acquired veteran centre Sam Carrick from the New York Rangers, the teams confirmed on Friday morning.
The Sabres are sending their third-round pick and Chicago's sixth-round pick in this summer's draft to complete the trade.
Carrick sat out New York's win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday for roster management reasons.
The 34-year-old is in his 10th NHL campaign and has four goals and six assists in 60 games for the Rangers.

More information
Carrick is in the second year of a three-year deal signed in 2024. It comes with a $1-million cap hit.
Drafted in the fifth round of the 2010 draft by the Maple Leafs, Carrick has spent NHL time with Toronto, Anaheim, Edmonton and New York.
Over 380 career games, he has 38 goals and 83 points.
In the midst of a lost season, the Rangers continue to trade from their roster before Friday's deadline as they begin to look to the future.
New York has already dealt Artemi Panarin and Carson Soucy this season, and now adds Carrick to the list of players shipped out of town.
Carrick will jump into the thick of the playoff race with Buffalo. After knocking off the Pittsburgh Penguins earlier Thursday, the Sabres tied the Tampa Bay Lightning atop the Atlantic Division with 80 points — although Buffalo has played three more games.
