The Montreal Canadiens are adding some depth to their blue line.
The Canadiens have traded winger Joshua Roy to the Utah Mammoth in exchange for six-foot-three defenceman Maksymilian Szuber, the team announced Monday.
Szuber, 23, spent the 2025-26 season in the American Hockey League with the Tucson Roadrunners, the Mammoth's affiliate. He tallied 11 goals and 16 assists in 65 games.
Drafted by the Arizona Coyotes in the sixth round in 2022, Szuber made his NHL debut in the 2023-24 season, suiting up for one game — a 5-0 loss to the Seattle Kraken on April 9.
A native of Opole, Poland, Szuber represents Germany on the international stage and played for the team at the world juniors in 2021 and 2022, finishing with one assist in seven games.
Roy, meanwhile, was taken by the Canadiens in the fifth round of the 2021 draft.
Though he's mostly suited up with the Laval Rocket in the AHL, he has 38 games of NHL experience under his belt over three seasons, with six goals and five assists to his name.
A native of Saint-Georges-De-Beauce, Que., Roy had 23 goals and 22 assists in 57 games with the Rocket this past season.
