The Buffalo Sabres have acquired veteran blue-line depth.
Defencemen Caleb Jones and Daniel Laatsch have been traded to the Sabres from the Pittsburgh Penguins for defenceman Ryan Johnson, the teams announced on Monday.
Jones, 29, appeared in seven games for the Penguins last season and tallied one assist, but is yet to lace up the skates for NHL action in 2026-27.
The journeyman defenceman has played for five teams over his eight-year career, last playing consistently when he skated for 73 games and had 16 points (four goals, 12 assists) with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2022-23.
Johnson has played just 47 career games over the last three years, including three last season. The 25-year-old left-shot defenceman was selected in the first round, 31st overall, in the 2019 NHL Draft.
Laatsch, 24, was drafted with the seventh-round pick by Pittsburgh in 2021. He split time last season between the AHL's Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and the ECHL’s Wheeling Nailers.
